Being Courageous in Life and Business [Jordan Fogarty]

Do you ever wonder how some individuals are able to rise above the challenges that life throws at them?

These individuals use these challenges as an impetus to move forward, rather than as an excuse to give up and be complacent.

This week’s guest, Jordan Fogarty, is no stranger to fighting through all that life has to throw at him.

Jordan is an award-winning entrepreneur, and Founder and CEO of Australian specialist Web 3.0 strategy and delivery company, Be Media. Be Media is the go-to-market arm of Animoca Brands, the global leader in blockchain, gaming and Web3.0.

Jordan’s life changed dramatically after he was involved in a high-speed car crash at the age of 19. He was the passenger in a car that sped 140km/h into a tree, leaving him with 25 broken bones and years of rehabilitation ahead of him.

When he woke up the doctor’s told him his life was never going to be the same again; he wouldn’t be going back to university and he wouldn’t be able to run ever again. Basically, what he previously expected he was going to do in his life wasn’t going to happen.

But, for Jordan this wasn’t an option.

Even after the doctor’s presented this future, he would lie in his hospital bed and imagine running on the beach. He knew that he would do everything in his power to live the life that he wanted to live, to choose the path he wanted to go.

During his long recovery journey, Jordan had a lot of time to reflect on his life and what he wanted to do in the future. He decided to leave his law degree and pursue his entrepreneurial want of running a business.

It turns out that the accident was the impetus for him to stop listening to all the external noise and for him to start backing himself.

The main wisdom that Jordan gleaned from that life-altering experience was to be courageous.

He had to be courageous to tackle the years of physical rehabilitation.

He had to be courageous to mentally recover from the trauma of the experience.

He had to be courageous to forgive the driver of the car who left the scene of the accident.

He had to be courageous to pivot his career trajectory from law to pursue the life of running a business.

And, boy, has it served him well.
